Can I have some poop for my birthday?

redneck-garden.jpg

I’m back. Thanks to Vicki’s prompting and the following email to my hubbie:

Hey Manchops!

So.I’ve been thinking…. We have some cash or we could be super good and not spend it at all, which I would understand. Seriously. But if we did want to spend some money on my birthday I want one of these two things:

1. My garden finished (Mary Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow?)… I can give you my dirt and manure contacts. That’s a sentence I thought I’d never type!
2. This EXACT laundry system. (I’ve thought ALOT about it and price, feature compared and this is what I want):

Love ya!
Mary

What else do you do with something like that? I had to blog it! I’m stunned that this year for my birthday I’m asking for manure and laundry stuff. Seriously.

In the past, I’m the girl that has planned out for months ahead of time what lavish expenses I expect all to spend on me. I give detailed lists with shopping coordinates and coupons if need be. So what’s up with the manure?

I fell for it. Dustin has totally suckered me into his living simple and sustainable thing. Oh, and the book Serve God, Save the Planet: A Christian Call to Action by Mathew Sleeth, M.D. has done a really good job as well. I’ve pretty much stopped using our dryer and have actually found that it’s easier for me to finish the laundry that way..hey, it’s already hung up :); I use our grey water to water the plants; I meticulously tend to our compost emptying all leaf clippings and degradable food into it; I’m a good girl and recycle and I’ve recently become obsessed with Freecycle.org. So, this year for my birthday I really want things that make my green lifestyle more organized and ehem, pretty.

For Mother’s day Dustin started a garden for me, since I want to start growing my own organic vegetables and herbs. It’s not quite finished since we don’t have enough compost to fill it. That’s where my freecycle finds of dirt and manure come in :). Oh what have I become? Why can’t I be normal and ask for this?

Your back!! Okay I have to say that I want a garden also, I’ve requested for over a year now, still no garden. And I actually received the Tiffany ring I had been pinning over for Christmas :0)
So when is your B-day, how old will you be?

@ Vicky - I’m turning 29 on Sunday!!! I was going to throw myself this big blow out bash themed after the movie 13 going on 30, but my SIL convinced me to save it for my thirtieth. She just better still be dating or married to the owner of that limo company then. I’m expecting a Hummer that seats 30 with a karaoke machine inside! Yay yay yay. I wish.

I loved that book. It has definitely made us consider some lifestyle changes- we now have a garden, too! I was good about not using the dryer for a while, but have gotten lazy recently. I need to get back in gear!

I couldn’t find your email on here, but here’s the link to a post I did on cloth diapering a few months ago, here’s the link:

In short, yes you can save money. Yes it is slightly more inconvenient (more laundry), though not as much as I originally thought. Anyway, I’d love to answer any specific questions if you have any. Happy birthday!
