I don’t blame you. If I didn’t love my OB so much I’d probably have tried to fine a midwife. My OB is not normal though…he’s a D.O. instead of an M.D. and seems to be much more into the natural and whole body way of doing things. Of course, he didn’t try to make me not get the epidural when I had Lila…but he lets me make my own decisions. I feel very lucky to have found an OB that isn’t trying to force me into a c-section with these twins. Anyway, you go find that midwife of yours before it’s too late!!

Good for you for switching! I am at an OB (again), though I’m not totally crazy about it. It’s not that I don’t trust doctors, though I have totally run into the same thing where they push you toward something just because it’s easier… for them. Not necessarily because it’s the best/healthiest choice. Anyway, despite all that, I had a quick, easy, great hospital delivery and am hoping for the same this time.

BTW, I have a friend who is a midwife in Chandler if you want her contact info. She only does homebirths, though… I think.

Hi Mary,
As a woman who is five months pregnant with her first child (in the Phoenix area), I gotta make sure I understand this: you DON’T want an epidural? I mean, I know many women opt out for various reasons. I was just curious about your reasons. I may not be able to get one due to blood thinners that I have to inject myself with daily - apparently they don’t play well with epidurals, depending on when I go into labor. But I desperately want one!

Sorry for you having to go through all that, but it seems as though we are having similar experiences. I guess I should ask about not getting an epidural because after what you posted I kinda think it’s going to be the same response. I checked though and there are no midwives that my insurance will cover so I’m pretty much stuck. I really hope that I can get the birth I want this time around! Keep us posted about how the search for your midwife goes!

If you called the practice would they tell you where she is? When I had Carter I finally asked for the epidural because I could no longer fight the urge to push. I got it, she checked me I was a 10, and my labor slowed down! I was pissed.
