That sound

Maddie has become so wonderfully vocal. Our house is filled with the little girl giggles, shrieks and jabbering. She is so talkative and expressive. I love that about her personality.

What is really driving me nuts though is our first disciplining tackle: The Sound. Whenever she sees food or something of interest to her, she’ll start begging for it with “eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, raaaaaawwwwwww”. Holy cow it drives me nuts! Is it normal for 15 monthers to whine? I thought I had a while before that.

She knows the signs for “eat” and “more”, but she won’t do them. We are trying not to reinforce the behavior by ignoring it or prompting her by asking “Maddie do you want more ?” or pleading with her to sign “eat” before we give her anything. She EVENTUALLY does it, but it seems like all day is filled with “eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, raaaaaawwwwwww”. C’mon now, I can’t even hear Pandora over it!

Are we doing the right thing? Does it just take time? Any suggestions?

No suggestions here. Lila is just a couple of weeks older, and she definitely does her fair share of whining. We don’t sign, but she does say “more” when she wants “more” so that isn’t a issue for us, but if I’m eating something like a popsicle or ice cream she is amazingly annoying w/ the begging.

Ignoring is what we did. The whinning continues though. Brayden is 3. But the noise will stop. It is a phase.
